It sounds like it might be your valves, or just a valve, that might be making this noise due to mis-adjustment. A "ticking" sound makes me think this especially if the sound comes from the upper engine area. If you're not handy with doing this sort of thing, have a dealer or other wrench do the work. Easy job on the Savage. Not a bad idea to have it looked at fairly soon.
